What seemed to start out as a joke seems to have escalated.  On 755, a popular celebrity chatting app, a fan asks Kato Rena to do “Renacchi Oshimen Sousenkyo Election”.  Her next message is, “Perhaps I’ll do my oshimen election on 755”.  This was only the beginning… 

First, it begins by a fan on 755, asking Kato Rena (otherwise known as Renacchi) to do a “Renacchi Oshimen Election”.  She agrees, and starts taking candidates:

Fan: “I want you to do a Renacchi’s Oshimen Election!”

Renacchi: “I want to do it.”, and later, “Maybe I’ll do my Oshimen Election on 755, haha”.

Takahashi Juri steps in as “official” MC, calling herself “Tokumitsu Juri-o” (a play on the sousenkyo’s regular MC name, Tokumitsu Kazuo), and starts noting what other Team 4 members are doing to improve their chances at getting in Renacchi’s senbatsu:

“Renacchi’s Election has just started, and even though I haven’t announced my candidacy, by word of mouth, it seems that Kami-7 is going to be really tough.  Yuria-chan (Kizaki Yuria) was also told that Kami-7 would be hard to achieve.  The results are unpredictable!!”

“In order to rank in Renacchi’s Election…..”

“…Yuria has started by offering hand massages!”

“Next… Chiyori has started a shoulder massage!”

“Feeling confident at getting #1 in the preliminaries”. (Tano Yuka)

“Feeling confident getting #1 in the prelims, part 2” (Oshima Ryoka).

The joke seems to escalate like crazy, with well over 100+ candidates, even those from unrelated groups such Idoling! and Nogizaka46, and judging from Renacchi’s 755 feed, some people she has never talked to before.  The final candidate list:

Eventually, Renacchi makes her final decision for the top 16 members of her oshimen senbatsu.  She also notes the reason for each on her 755 stream:

Seems like it’d be over by then.  But then, the unthinking happens when she asks Akimoto via 755:

Renacchi: “Akimoto-sensei!  Renacchi’s Oshimen Sousenkyo is over!  With these super cute members, please make a song and music video!”

And Akimoto’s response: “Miss Secret Weapon!  I understand.  Let’s make a song and music video. Matsumoto and Kitagawa will make it.”

Very funny to watch all around. And also very interesting that this turned into a real thing.  I hope Renacchi’s Oshimen single turns out well!
