Creepy Yukirin robot is creepy

At the main offices of Dentsu located in the Shiodime area of Tokyo, they’ve placed a robot at the front desk. This is not endorsed by AKS at all, but many people have noted that the robot looks like a certain Japanese idol…

Whether the look is intentional or not, no one confirms, but the robot is conspicuously named, “Roborin”. There’s an Xbox Kinect sensor located in the robot’s chest area (you can see the three distinct holes for the cameras), the robot is able to greet people and look them straight in the face.

The robot is part of a Dentsu company-wide effort to promote technology initiatives within the company.

Here is the robot in action:

There’s also a promotion video about the robot, which is apparently a model called the “Gazeroid”, because it stares at you:

Interesting.

It’s obvious they did it on purpose, it looks way too much like it to be a simple accident.

You are probably right; it’s just funny they didn’t mention it explicitly. Just adding “-rin” at the end of the name gives a big hint though.
