Maeda Atsuko’s latest movie, “Initiation Love”, available on Blu-ray and DVD this December.
The movie “Initiation Love”, based off of Kurumi Inui’s novel, will be available for purchase on both Blu-ray or DVD on December 2. It was directed by Tsutsumi Yukihiko, and stars Matsuda Shota and Maeda Atsuko.
It had been said that the clever nature of the novel “absolutely could not be recreated in film”, yet the movie defies this statement.
The trailer for the movie can be seen below, and places a heavy emphasis on the movie’s ending “twist”.
The story is set in the late 1980’s in Shizuoka and Tokyo, where there is a bittersweet meeting and subsequent parting between a young man and woman. It is a story of young love; no matter what time, place, it could be experienced by anyone, but the last 5 minutes of the film is so surprising in its upheaval of every that that had happened until that point.
No sooner had the film opened on May 23, it became a hit. Regardless of whether there were fans of the original novel or those who had yet to have read it, it had audiences howling. Since opening, the Japanese film held the number one spot for two days straight.
