“AKB48 10th Year

The theater was opened on December 8th, 2005, and it has been 10 years since that day. The interior design construction wasn’t finished, large blue sheets were put up, and construction materials were pushed off into a corner. I remember, just like it was yesterday, that scene of the first generation members crying while they did their lessons. These girls had no experience in song or dance – they simply headed toward their dreams and started walking. I’m sure they were uneasy. It’s because they were trying to do something that hadn’t been done before. On the first day, there were only 7 customers. There were many members who wondered, “What are we doing here”, and it seems there were many times when they said, “Tomorrow, I’m quitting.” Even so, they tried hard. It was because all of you fans continued to support us. There weren’t that many of you, but it was because there were people who were there and carried us. People are able to try their hardest when someone needs them. We were able to reach our 10th year because we felt needed by you.

Once again, thank you very much.”

Thank you, Akimoto Yasushi, for bringing AKB into this world!!
