HKT48’s Ito Raira announced her graduation during a theater event on January 17th, 2016. Here is an English translation of her commentary from the the theater performance.

“Yes, there’s something I have to say. I, Ito Raira, will graduate from HKT48. It’s a really sudden announcement, and I’m really sorry to surprise all the fans and members.” (はい、ここで私から報告があります。私、伊藤来笑はHKT48を卒業します。急な発表になってしまって、メンバーだったりファンの皆さんにビックリさせてしまって申し訳ございません)

“Ever since I became a high schooler, I’ve thought about continuing my education. And from there, I started to really like learning English. I want to learn more about language. I want to reach out to more people, and I think that I want to study abroad.” (私は高校生になってから進学について考えるようになって、そこから英語が好きになったっていうこともあって、もっと語学について学びたいなって思ったり、もっとたくさんの方と触れ合ってみたいなと思うようになって、留学をしたいなって考えるようになりました)

“I’ve talked about this with Mr. Ozaki and with my manager. And they said it would be okay if I quit HKT, and then came back later. But while enjoying life studying abroad, that would mean making the other members and fans wait for me. They fans would be trying so hard to support me, and I would hate it if I wasn’t able to give back. I’d feel very bad, so with a new sense of motivation and challenge, I’ve decided to choose studying abroad.” (それを尾崎さんやマネージャーさんに相談したら、いったんHKTの活動を休業して、戻ってきてもいいんだよって言ってもらったんですけど、私は好きな留学をさせてもらっているのにメンバーやファンの皆さんを待たせることになるし、全力で応援してくださるファンの方に全力で返せないのは私凄い嫌だし、ほんとに申し訳ないので今新たに本気で挑戦したいと思い留学を選ぶことにしました)

“I didn’t become part of HKT because I wanted to be an actress or model. I love HKT and wanted to become part of this group, and that’s why I tried so hard these past 3 years to be where I am. This is the first time I’ve thought about something other than HKT48, and I want to treasure those feelings.” (私は女優さんとかモデルさんになりたくてHKTになったんじゃなくて、HKTが大好きで、HKTになりたくて3年間頑張ってこれました。そんな中で初めてHKT48以外のことで新しい目標を見つけることができたので、その気持ちを大切にしたいなと思います)

“Also, in addition to studying abroad, I’ve got one more goal. Because I love idols, and I want to spread idol culture worldwide. Mio, since the very beginning, is always saying, ‘We’ll make HKT48 a group known throughout the world!’ And I know that I’ll no longer be a member, but if I try hard as a fan, it would be great to contribute something to HKT48.” (あと、留学のことを考える上でもう1つ目標ができて。私はアイドルが好きなので世界中にアイドルの文化をもっともっと広めていきたいなと思っていて。美桜が初期からずっと言ってる「HKT48を世界に通用するグループにする」というのをメンバーとしてじゃなくなりますが、イチファンとして頑張って、HKT48に貢献できたらなと思います)

“This has gotten really long, and I’ve got about a month and a half. I’ll also be part of the tour. I really want to live out my HKT life to its fullest, so I’d be very happy if you continued to support me until the very end. Thank you very much!” (長くなってしまったんですけど、まぁまだ1ヶ月半ぐらいあるので、ツアーにも出させていただきますし、なのでHKT人生をまっとうしたいと思っているので、皆さんも最後まで全力で応援してくださると嬉しいです。よろしくお願いします)
