Here is a relatively unusual thread to a relatively unusual question, posed by one Japanese netizen: if I really wanted to somehow coincidentally meet AKB48 members out in public, how would I go about doing it?

If you’re in Osaka, and  you just walk around Umeda / Namba area, you’ll really just naturally run into them. Tokyo has too many places to hang out, so they probably spread out more.

I have met a member in Shibuya before. It was a really popular HKT member; I was shocked. She didn’t really try to disguise herself either.

In Osaka’s Shinbashi area, I was lining up to buy a crepe. Behind me was Shiroma Miru! I yelled out, and Miru just laughed at me.

It’s really important that you loiter around the business districts in the middle of the afternoon. Otherwise go to Shibuya when it looks like she’s not working.

As for Fukuoka, you should check around the airport, since they probably get around by airplane often. From Parco to Watanabe Street, you might see them filming an outdoor TV show.

Rather than Tokyo, I feel like Namba and Hakata are probably easier to spot members.

I have seen Nishino and Kojimako in Shinagawa. Around Shinagawa Station’s Takanawa exit, I’ve also seen Nakamura Mariko.

If you don’t care about members, and just want to see some random Japanese celebrities, just go to the Nishi Azabu district. You can easily see, like, 10 of them probably.

Between Tokyo Disney Land and Universal Studios Japan, try going to Universal Studios Japan. I have this image in my mind that NMB members go there often.

I was in Osaka on business, and I was riding the Midosuji subway line. A theater performance had just finished, and I saw a lot of NMB members heading home.

But that was about 5 years ago, and I really had no interest in the 48 groups then. The only one I recognized was Kishino Rika. I don’t remember the others at all.

If you’re looking for NMB members, just go to near the theater on the day of performance. Around 3pm.  Stand in front of the Mujirushi store, and you’ll encounter so many members because they are heading into the theater.

Around the TV headquarters in Akasaka, I saw a girl that looked like Ichikawa Miorin. It looked like she was wandering around and looking for something to eat. I was looking at her clothes, wondering if that’s what she normally wore: it was an unthinkably bright and flashy dress. She didn’t have a mask either. Then I yelled out, “Ah, Lemon!”

    I think I would feel weird to meet a member here in Japan. I mean, it would be cool, but at the same time, I want to respect their privacy. They might just be trying to do their normal, everyday life stuff, and they don’t want to feel like they are on the job dealing with a fan you know? But if I could run into somebody, I wish it would be my oshi, Tani Marika. That would be kaaaakkkoooiii!

        Tani is my oshi, so I am not sure how much more I can love her lol. I really do wish I could know her in real life, like just as a friend even, because she seems so wonderful. I have been looking all over Akihabara to find Tani merchandise, but so far, no luck. Maybe if I could find Tani herself?

          I think the mentioned abouve should work.

          Just go around SKE theater or city center and you may find groups of 2-3 girls.

          But i think its better just to walk casually and find her, than searching for her, that might be creepy. 😐

      That is perfectly commendable — more often than not you will hear about fans overstepping their bounds, though I suspect that those kind of incidents are more prone to getting media attention. These idols are still people after all, so it is good that we remember that.

      Tani Marika? Just stay away from her room, unless of course you intend to do some housekeeping for you, hehe.

        lol…I am terrible at doing housekeeping, but I would do that for her because I love her so much. I really feel like I want to take care of her, she’s soooo adorable and funny!
        But sure, idols are people, and even if Tani was sitting next to me on a train in Tokyo, I would really have to consider saying hi to her or leaving her alone. She may want to just switch off from being an idol in her private life, and it’s not fair to her that I would want her to act like the Tani I see on variety shows in her private life just to make me happy, especially when I’m not paying to see her or anything like that.
        But then again, Tani might be that insane all the time, so I might be okay? Or in my fantasy, she would notice me, and then we would talk and everything would be awesome!
        Oh man… I think I need to start writing some fan fiction about her lol.

    If I saw my oshi in person I would try to not pay attention to them so they could the time they have on their own.Later in the day I would scream with a pillow over my face of excitement…(since it is our oshi afterall,we can’t ignore it the whole day XD)
