Here is Oya Shizuka’s confession, with English subtitles, from the video game AKB 1⁄149 Renai Sousenkyo Love Election.
Despite being part of AKB48, Oya Shizuka is originally from Kyushuu (the area that HKT48 represents). During her confession, She therefore speaks in her confession with the very familiar and informal Hakata dialect that we all know and love.
One interesting thing here is that she refers to herself as “Uchi”, which is just another first-person pronoun, similar to “Watashi”.
In the end of the main scene, she askes, “Uchi ja, dame?”, which literally means, “Am I bad?”, or, “Am I not okay?” The literal translation doesn’t make much sense, but the basica nuance I think still gets through: she’s basically asking if you want to enact the scene she just described (of two people, in love, kissing under the sea), and if it’s okay that she be your partner in that scene.
I’ve gone with a translation that is less literal, and perhaps more natural (as I tend to do!).
Here is a transcript with inline English translation:
Hey, you should get your diving license.
It’ll definitely be fun!
I’ll be able to teach you a lot of things.
And then we’ll be able to dive together.
That’s always been my dream –
To dive into the ocean with someone I love, and kiss, surrounded by ocean.
Would that be okay with you?
No way, huh? Wait, what?!
YESSSSSSS! I love you!!
Yeah, I knew it. I’m going home now.
Huh? No, no, no, I can’t!
Kyaaaaaa, so embarrassing!
