Miyawaki Sakura 2016 8th Senbatsu speech (English subtitles)

Here is Miyawaki Sakura’s speech for the 6th position from the 2016 AKB48 45th Single 8th Senbatsu Sousenkyo General Election.

To all of those who voted for me, thank you very much. For me, there’s so much that I’m lacking. There are too many things I lack, so I don’t know to strengthen myself. I don’t know how to try hard. And I don’t know if I’m heading in the right direction.

But when I have no trust in myself, there are lot of fans who tell me that it’s okay for to have confidence. When I’m smiling, there are people who look so happy for me, and when I’m crying, there are people who worry about me. It’s because you are there for me that this year, even just a little, that I was able to gain confidence in myself.

This is the first time that I cried during a speech. I wanted it to be happy tears, and the #6 position is a wonderful spot to be, but I was aiming for the top 5, so I’m very frustrated. Just now, when Kojima-san announced her graduation, it made me very uneasy. Whenever a senior member graduates, uneasiness continues to grow.

In last year’s speech, I said that I was aiming for #1, and during this last year, I was working along side with my senior members. But the closer I became to them, the bigger they seemed. And I thought many times that I could never overcome their greatness.

I thought I would say something crazy like, “I want to destroy AKB”. But I feel that I’m unqualified to make such statements. I’ve achieved the #6 rank, but is it okay for me to say that that I want to be #1 next year? I’ve still got a lot to learn, but I’ll try my best to work even harder and catch up with my senior members.
