Here is Okada Nana’s speech for the #9 position from the 2017 AKB48 49th Single 9th Senbatsu Sousenkyo General Election.

まずは投票してくださった皆さん、いつも応援して下さった皆さん、ありがとうございます。去年の総選挙で14位にランクインすることができて、ありがたいことにそこからずっと全てのシングルに選抜に選んでいただくことができました。
First, to those who voted and those who always support me, thank you. Ever since being #14 in last year’s election, I’ve been very thankful to be part of the lineup for each single since then.

ずっと目指していた選抜になり、自分の中で意識や考え方が変わりました。それまでは私が私達の世代がAKBグループを引っ張っていかねばならないと強く思うようになり、グループを全体として見れるようになりました。
I’ve always wanted to be part of the senbatsu, and my thinking about it has changed. I want to be able to pull the group forward for the next generation, and I’ve started to see the group as a whole.

でも今のままでは明るい未来は作れないんじゃないかなと感じています。今のAKBグループは、スキャンダルだったり、問題を起こしてそれをネタにしたり笑いにしたりして、そこから這い上がるメンバーがよく見られます…いいと思うんです！
But at the moment, the future isn’t looking very bright. In AKB, there are scandals, problems, and other issues that get made fun of. And up and coming members see that…. but it’s a good thing!

みんなが一緒じゃ絶対つまらないし、そういう人がいてもいいと思ったんですけど、でもそれを真似していいとは絶対思わないし、自分は真面目にやっていてもいつか必ずAKB48のてっぺんをとれると思っています。
If everyone were the same, it’d be boring. Having those types of people is okay. But I don’t think that’s something I would ever do. I believe that by working very diligently, that I’ll make it to the top of AKB48.

真っ直ぐに頑張っている人が報われるように、グループを変えていきたいです。そして、今年の春から、STU48という、新しいグループを兼任することになり、私にとってもう1つ守りたい大切なものが出来ました。
I want this to be a group where honesty and hard work pay off. Also, from next spring, I’ll be part of STU48. I’ve found another important thing that I want to protect.

キャプテンとして、STU48のメンバーにとってお手本となるようないい背中を見せたいです。なのでこれからは、AKB48チーム4のキャプテン、STU48のキャプテンを務めるとともに、48グループの風紀委員長を目指して、これからも全力疾走していきたいと思います！
As the captain, I want to be a good example to the STU48 members. So, as captain for Team 4, and captain for STU48, I’m hoping to become AKB48’s Chairman of Public Morals, I’ll do my best!

そしていつか、夢のまた夢かもしれませんが、AKB48シングルのセンターを任せて頂けるように、皆さんとこれからも前を向いて進んでいきたいと思います。
Also, one day, it might still just be a dream, I want to keep moving forward, and be the center for an AKB48 single.

最後になりますが、私をいつも支えてくださるたくさんのファンの皆さん、メンバー、家族のみんな、本当にありがとうございます。

STU48は、瀬戸内を拠点に活動していて、AKB48グループとして初めて船の上での劇場公演が行われるということで、そういうところを売りにしていきたいですし、みんな今コンサートのためにすごくたくさん練習したりして努力家がすごく多いグループだと思うので、私もキャプテンとしてちゃんとした背中を見せてどんどん成長していけたらいいな思います。
STU48 is based in Setouchi. As part of the AKB48 groups, it’s the first one to have a stage set on a boat and that’s what I want to make a selling point. Everyone is practicing for concerts, and there are a lot of hard workers. As captain, I hope that I’ll set a good example and continue to grow.

昨日もメンバーが「奈々さんが神7に入れるように応援してます」とか、コンビニで私のうちわを「ゲットしたよ」ってわざわざ写真を撮って送ってくれたりだとか、本当にみんなからの愛を感じて、私もこれからもその愛を返していきたいですし、STU48とAKB48の兼任になるんですけど、AKB48に負けないくらいのすごいグループをみんなで作っていきたいです。
Yesterday, some members said, “I hope you’ll being in the Top 7”. They’d go to the convenience store and send me pictures of how they got a fan with my face on it. I felt their love, and I want to return it. Although I’m a part of STU48 and AKB48, I want to make this group even better than AKB48.

もう私にはSTUっていう希望の光があるので、諦めずに頑張ります！ただ、今回神7を目標にしていて、目標の順位にはなれなかったんですけど、こうして今ステージに立って、皆さんに感謝の気持ちを伝えられたことが幸せです。
For me, STU is like a light of desire, I won’t give up, and I’ll do my best. I was hoping to be part of the top 7, and although I didn’t make it, I’m very happy that I’m able to express my feelings of thanks to all of you.

でもこれからもまだまだ神7を諦めていないし、上を目指していくので応援よろしくお願いします！
