Takahashi Juri’s 2017 9th Senbastu Speech (English Subtitles)

Here is Takahashi Juri’s speech for the #11 position from the 2017 AKB48 49th Single 9th Senbatsu Sousenkyo General Election.

Thank you for your support today. In last year’s election, I became part of the top 16 for the first time when you placed me at #15. From that time, during the end of the year AKB Kouhaku election, I didn’t rank.

At that time, I never imagined that I’d be able to make a speech here again. It’s all thanks to you.

From the audience, I watched the Future Girls’ group members being called. There were some who were frustrated and crying. Fans who were also frustrated. Members who were happy. Amongst the members who brought to Under Girls by the fans, someone who talked about marriage and stuff. When I saw everyone’s conflicted feelings, and I thought about all the tears I’d seen up to that point, my chest was in pain.

At the end of last year, having disappointed all of you, I was really frustrated. It was really painful, but during that period, for the first time, I discovered something really important about this group.

Those times that frustrated me, it nourished me. And it made me not want to give up. That’s what I think the AKB48 group is about.

What I want to tell you is, I’m truly sorry for crying tears of frustration. I didn’t understand what it meant to be part of AKB48. During tough times, fans said to me, “Juri-chan, we’ll prove to you that you’re a necessary part of AKB48”. Because of that, I’m now here crying tears of joy.

In my mobile mail, I’ve sent a lot messages filled with my worries. This year, I’ll try to do that much less.

To the fans who voted, and the fans who continued to support me, I’ll try my best to fulfill your expectations.

“If you’ve changed your favorite member from me to another sister group, or another group’s member, I’ll definitely make you regret it!”… is not what I’m thinking right now. But as you slowly return, I want to prove to you that AKB48 is the best.

Everyone, thank you for your support today. I love you all! Thank you very much!
